Different types of Lawn Fertilizer

How to understand the lawn fertilizer label?
By law all lawn fertilizer labels have to provide the same information:
Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium.
These nutrients are identified by numbers. Each number stands for the percentage available of each nutrient in each lawn fertilizer package. For example 28-2-3. If you have 2 different fertilizers with the same number you can pick the best one by taking the one that have the biggest level of nitrogen. The more nitrogen pounds the better it is.
This is how you figure the nitrogen level in a package:
You will take the fertilizer package weight and multiply it by the percentage of nitrogen. For example 10 pound bag of 28-2-3 holds 2.8 pounds of nitrogen. (10 x 28%) Then you have to divide that amount by the number of 1,000 square foot units the bag covers. If a 10 pound bag covers 3,000 this is how: 2.8 divided by 3 = .93% wish it means you will have .93% of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet.
Some fertilizer are fast release of nitrogen while other fertilizer are slower. It really doesn't matter wish one you used as long as the nitrogen is absorbed, but you will see the difference how the lawn reacts to each kind.
Types:
Inorganic - This are fast release sources of salt that pull water from the air making it grow quick. They are not expensive and are have high nitrogen levels.
Liquid - This fertilizer contains fast release of nitrogen but it most be reapply often. It will provide a sudden growth flush but it only last for around 2 weeks, then it will slow down.
Organic - This is a slow release source but safer on plants. It is easier to spread and it is delivered from natural materials. These fertilizers are long lasting but low in nitrogen. Making it hard for the lawn to absorb the right needed amount.
