How to Care for a Tattoo
57The life of your tattoo depends upon the care it receives in the first 2 weeks. Keep the tattoo covered with the bandage for at least two hours. After this time remove the bandage. Wash it thoroughly with soap and water. Be sure to remove all surface blood and rinse off all soap. Lightly pat dry.
- DO NOT REBANDAGE TATTOO
- DO NOT APPLY VASELINE OR PETROLEUM JELLY
- DO NOT APPLY ALCOHOL
- DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH TATTOO
With clean hands apply a very light coat of A & D ointment or an unscented uncolored hand lotion such as Curel or Lubriderm a minimum of three times a day. This ointment/ lotion can be purchased at the shop or at any drug store. If a rash occurs discontinue use.
- DO NOT LET TATTOO DRY OUT
- DO NOT PICK THE TATTOO
- DO NOT EXPOSE TO SUNLIGHT FOR 2 WEEKS
- DO NOT SWIM FOR AT LEAST 1 WEEK
- DO NOT SOAK IN SAUNA, STEAM OR TUB FOR AT LEAST 1 WEEK
The tattoo will develop a layer of dry skin. Let this skin fall off naturally. After the skin has fallen off there will be a period of adjustment. It is advisable to apply a lotion. The tattoo is your responsibility after you leave the shop. USE COMMON SENSE.
